Call for Nationwide Demo in Morocco

A youth movement behind demonstrations demanding political reform in Morocco has called another nationwide protest on April 24 with supporting groups urging Wednesday a strong turnout.
The February 20 Movement, named after the date of the first countrywide protests that came amid a wave of demonstrations across the Arab world, announced the new gathering on a video on its Facebook page.
“We are calling a peaceful demonstration in all towns to put an end to corruption and injustice and for a real democracy in our country,” said a person on the video on the site, which counts more than 45,000 supporters, AFP reported.
It is the third time the group has called nationwide demonstrations following ones on February 20 and March 20 which were supported by thousands of people and demanded urgent reforms and limits on the king’s powers.
There have also been other smaller demonstrations.
King Mohammed VI responded to the first protest, which was followed by violence that left six people dead, by announcing plans for reforms including strengthening judicial independence.
He also established a commission to propose constitutional reforms.
The commission expects to complete its work on June 15 and hand its recommendations to the king the following day, one of its members said on condition of anonymity.
A group of non-government organizations, youth groups and unions said in a statement it supported the call for an April 24 demonstration “and urges a strong turnout”.
